A Texas Twitter began in a thrift store, if the start of anything these days is determinable. Blue is how I picture Copenhagen and I don’t know exactly why. I’ve never been there, but my Many Mini Residency is a warm substitute. It lasted one and a half hours in Denmark while I was at home in Houston. I spent a couple of weeks thinking about what I would make. I found this porcelain plate when looking for a Copenhagen memento at a gritty little grill known for its Texas sized breakfasts. The Yale Street Grill and Gifts, its called, also sells antiques and collectables.
I bought it and re-fired it again in my electric kiln, adding the black letter decals. Neither the giver nor the receiver knew what to expect, since I labeled it not fragile and shipped it without packing material. Had it arrived in pieces, it would have been much more work for Koh-i-noor to exhibit. It is a risk to accept a gift. Thank you for participating in my Many Mini Residency, receiver of the gift who also became the curator of my work. Gifts are free like puppies are free- they do not come without responsibilities.
